Appliance Fault Codes

What that error code means — and what you can safely check

Zanussi washing machine error codes

Zanussi washing machines (Electrolux group) share the AEG code system: E-number codes such as E20 (drain), E10 (inlet) and E40 (door). Meanings are the same across Zanussi front-loader lines.

Zanussi washing machine error codes
CodeMeaningSeverityFirst action
E20Drain faultOften fixable at homeThe machine could not drain — water is left in the drum.
E10Water inlet faultOften fixable at homeThe machine did not fill with water, or filled too slowly.
E40Door faultOften fixable at homeThe door is not properly closed or the lock is not engaging, so the programme will not start.
E50Motor faultOften fixable at homeThe motor is not responding as expected — often carbon brush wear on older machines.
EF5Pressure sensor faultOften fixable at homeThe water-level (pressure) sensor is reporting values the control board cannot use.

Safety first

Unplug before any check. Never open panels beyond the filter flap. Anything involving internal wiring, the heater or gas must go to a professional — see each code page for its "call a professional when" line.
